Skier on the slopes at Afriski in the Maloti Mountains

You push off, high in the Maloti Mountains, and the slope falls away toward the valley below. It's an odd feeling to be skiing in Africa. But Afriski sits over 3,000 metres up, high enough to catch real snow from May into the winter months.

Snow-covered mountain scenery at Afriski

No skiing experience is needed. Instructors meet you on the slopes and walk you through the basics, so first-timers and experienced skiers ski side by side. Equipment rental is on site, so there's no need to bring your own gear. Beyond skiing, the resort has snowboarding, tubing, and bumboarding for anyone who wants a different way down the mountain. Fun fact: Afriski is the only ski resort in Southern Africa.
