The cliff next door has a Guinness record

The lodge sits in a valley ringed by peaks above 3,000 metres. From here you can ride a Basotho pony through the highlands, join a donkey pub crawl through the villages, or wade into the river for trout. It's just mountains, a river, and you.

The cliff is downstream. The Maletsunyane Falls drops 204 metres in a single, unbroken fall into the gorge — throwing up a permanent column of mist that gave Semonkong its name: "The Place of Smoke." That drop is a Guinness World Record: the world's longest single-drop commercial abseil. Bearded and Cape Vultures circle the wall while you go over the edge.
